In 2007, Pilates Designs LLC was established by Sylvia Adamopoulos and the late Basil Blecher to create exceptional handmade apparatus for our cherished Pilates community. As a small independent business in the heart of New York City, Pilates Designs has cultivated a broad following around the world, served thousands of international and local teachers, trainers, and enthusiasts alike, and has recently expanded the traditional Pilates line to preserve Joe Pilates’ original designs, while modernizing his equipment to accommodate the demands of today’s Classical Pilates.

In addition to maintaining the integrity of Mr. Pilates’ designs, Sylvia has teamed up with renown trainers to add two additional renowned lines of equipment: Kathi Ross Nash & Blossom Leilani Crawford. Gratz Pilates is the original manufacturer of Pilates apparatus based on Joseph Pilates’s own designs. Pilates Scandinavia was born from a simple belief: when movement feels good, people thrive and change. We are a Scandinavian company dedicated to building high-quality Pilates equipment that supports studios, instructors, and businesses in delivering meaningful movement experiences.

Our founders, long-time instructors and studio owners, spent decades teaching clients, training teachers, and managing growing studios. Along the way, they learned what truly matters: reliable equipment, intuitive design, and a partner who understands the daily realities of running a Pilates business. Pilates Scandinavia is our response to that experience – a place where craftsmanship meets professional insight.

TecnoPilates was established in 2008 by Paolo Piccolo – an entrepreneur and designer, founder and owner of the company and of the brand – whose idea it was to design and build Classical Pilates equipment, drawing strictly on the authentic, original concept of the father of the method: Joseph Pilates.

TecnoPilates products stand out for the excellent construction materials used, ranging from anodized aluminium to beech glulam, from birch to the very best in faux leather.

All equipment is produced strictly following the technical specifications originally laid down by Joseph Pilates.The equipment is designed with a clear focus on the concepts essential to the construction of the ideal tools for practising Classical Pilates: smoothly-moving mechanical parts, noiselessness of sliding systems, total freedom from vibrations, robustness and reliability of mechanisms, absolute safety during use, attention to the designs, inspired by the original, classic lines.

With the Contrology suite, we work to capture the essence of Joseph Pilates’ apparatus, preserving its authenticity and making it accessible for today’s practitioners. We’ve worked closely with Pilates legends like Jay Grimes, Karen Frischmann, Kathi Ross-Nash, and others to bring the classical Pilates approach to life through our Contrology® suite of apparatus. This collaboration wasn’t just about recreating equipment—it was about restoring the subtle functionalities that make classical Pilates so unique. We listened, learned, prototyped, and rigorously tested to ensure every detail reflected the original Pilates vision.

Our dedicated team of engineers has spent months carefully studying original Pilates apparatus to meticulously re-create the design details, such as the "magic divot" for foot placement, that define classical Pilates. Every element of our Contrology suite has been carefully crafted to deliver the same authentic experience Pilates practitioners have loved for generations.
